About the Item

Jean Luce Acid-Etched Crystal Vase – Rare French Art Deco Masterpiece, Signed circa 1930 An extraordinary example of French Art Deco artglass artistry, this acid-etched crystal vase by Jean Luce—expertly crafted in France circa 1930—is a rare and highly collectible design object. Luce, a pioneering figure in modernist Decorative-Arts, was known for his avant-garde approach to form and surface, and this piece exemplifies his visionary aesthetic. Its sculptural clarity and rhythmic embellishment reflect the intellectual rigor and elegance of the 1930s Modernist Movement. The underside bears Luce's iconic monogram signature. Pieces of this quality from Luce's early career are exceedingly hard to find and increasingly sought after by prominent collectors and curators. Dimensions: 4.94 in wide (12.5 cm) by 4.94 in deep (12.5 cm) by 8.25 in high (21 cm). Reference: Jean Luce (1895 – 1964) was a ceramic and glassware artist and designer born in Paris. Luce was a visionary who transformed tableware design. He refined his skills in his father's ceramics shop before launching his own in 1923, assuming full control in 1931. From then on, he set innovative standards in ceramics and glass, mastering both form and function with precision. His painted and stencil-applied motifs weren't just a decor—they were statements of elegance, seamlessly blending the naturalistic Art Moderne with opulent gold accents. Beyond his artistry, Luce shaped the future of Design. He joined the Union des Artistes Modernes (UAM) in 1937, mentored rising talents at the École des Arts Appliqués in Paris, and provided invaluable guidance as a technical advisor at the legendary Manufacture de Sèvres. His influence wasn't just lasting—it was transformative. Luce didn't merely design tableware, but he elevated it to an art form, leaving a legacy that continues to inspire.

A stunning Cut Lead Crystal Glass Vase made by Wash Glass England this vase has great style and reflects the Art Deco Period it dates to 1930 and is faintly etched underneath Walsh England. 25cm tall x 11.5cm wide The Vase is is fabulous condition but has slight scratches to the underneath consistent with the age of the piece. John Walsh Walsh bought a glassworks in Birmingham, England, in 1850 and it operated for a hundred years. The beautiful vase on the left is an example of this company's "New Opaline Brocade" glass which was advertised in the Pottery and Glass Trade Gazette in 1897. They made a large volume of glass, in all the typical styles of their period. Cut crystal in traditional or historical designs was another of their specialities, and from the turn of the century for the following 40 years they produced cut lead crystal with very deep cutting.
