A strikingly elegant ceramic vase by the celebrated French actor, sculptor, and artist Jean Marais (1913–1998). This piece is an exquisite example of Marais' work from his highly regarded period in Vallauris, France, a major center for modern pottery.
The vase features a beautifully simple, flared form, tapering from a subtle, rolled rim down to a sturdy, signed base. It is covered in a spectacular, deep, iridescent black glaze that catches the light to reveal subtle tones of metallic grey black showcasing the texture underneath.
