About the Item
A late 19th century French majolica glazed earthenware tall vase modeled as a Bearded Iris. Three purple and yellow cascading petals surround the head of the Iris. The footing is molded as green leaves and a cut brown stem. Beautiful mold work and amazing bold color.
Signed - Jerome Massier, Vallauris A.M.
Jerome, (1850–1916), was a cousin of the Massier brothers, a dynasty of potters dating back to before the French Revolution. The family played a key role in the revival of pottery in Vallauris, southern France. Jérôme Massier worked with the family in Vallauris, using the signature “Jérome Massier fils” from 1860-1880.
