About the Item
A sculptural handblown glass vase by acclaimed Japanese studio glass artist Kuniaki Kuroki (born 1945, Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan), one of the leading figures in contemporary Japanese art glass. Created during the Heisei Period (1989–2019), this work reflects Kuroki’s mature artistic language and his internationally recognized approach to form, color, and surface.
The vase features a rounded body of deep cobalt blue glass richly layered with multicolored glass fragments and shimmering gold leaf inclusions, creating a dynamic, painterly composition with exceptional depth. Delicately applied loop handles accent the shoulders, while the elegantly flared neck and foot are finished in a warm gilt-toned surface that provides a refined contrast to the saturated body.
Kuroki is celebrated for merging traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern studio glass techniques, and this piece exemplifies that balance—at once expressive and meticulously controlled. The interplay of opaque, translucent, and metallic elements gives the vase a luminous presence, making it equally compelling as a sculptural object or decorative vessel.
A strong example of Heisei-era Japanese studio glass, this vase is well suited for collectors of international art glass and for interior designers seeking a distinctive, museum-quality statement piece.
