About the Item
Beautiful and impressive hand-blown glass flower vase designed by Alfredo Barbini for Barbini, made in the 1970s and signed on the base. A sculptural presence, entirely executed in clear “vetro sonoro”, where transparency becomes form and light moves freely through the glass.
The wide, gently domed body rises at the center into four vertical chambers shaped like fluid, organic petals. Each section is individually blown and then fused together, creating a dialogue of solids and voids that recalls both contemporary sculpture and natural forms.
When filled with water, the vase transforms: reflections soften, light refracts through the inner curves, and the whole surface takes on a liquid brilliance. It becomes a poetic centerpiece, a functional flower vessel, or a standalone sculptural object.
Its generous proportions and substantial weight demonstrate the extraordinary technical mastery of the Barbini furnace, one of Murano’s most celebrated glassmakers, with whom Alfredo Barbini defined some of the most refined post-war Venetian glass aesthetics.
Excellent vintage condition with only minimal, age-appropriate signs of wear. The original sticker “eseguito a mano – vetro sonoro” is still present.
