About the Item

This monumental antique French porcelain vase was created in Paris, circa 1860, in the Louis XVI style and in the manner of the celebrated Sèvres tradition. The tall, elegant vessel stands on a fitted gilt bronze base and is crowned with a matching bronze rim embellished with fine bead molding. The body is richly decorated with a deep blue ground heightened by extensive gilt ornamentation. One side features a finely hand-painted romantic pastoral scene in the manner of François Boucher, depicting a gallant gentleman courting a seated young beauty within a classical landscape. The reverse is adorned with a large oval floral medallion, delicately rendered with roses and seasonal blossoms, providing visual balance and refinement. The vase displays excellent craftsmanship throughout, with luminous colors, finely applied gilding, and graceful proportions. It is in very good condition commensurate with age and use. The porcelain vessel has been professionally repaired, with restorations visible only from the interior and not affecting the exterior presentation or decorative integrity. Decorative and architectural in scale, this important antique vase would make an exceptional statement piece in a formal interior, entry hall, or as a focal point atop a console, pedestal, or mantel.
