About the Item
This large Chinese blue and white porcelain vase, dating to the 19th century during the Qing dynasty, presents a striking hand-painted design in a classic baluster form. Standing at 22 inches tall with a generous mouth opening of 7.5 inches in diameter, the vase makes an impressive decorative statement, whether placed on a console, mantel, or as a floor piece.
Executed in underglaze cobalt blue on a subtly bluish-green ground, the decoration features an array of auspicious motifs drawn from the Hundred Antiques pattern. Scattered across the surface are scholarly and ceremonial objects — including scrolls, fans, precious vessels, and ribboned emblems — all linked with flowing ribbons that lend rhythm and movement to the composition. These motifs, deeply rooted in Chinese symbolism, celebrate prosperity, knowledge, and refined living.
The flared rim and elongated neck are accented with applied handles, lending additional sculptural interest. The glaze shows natural variations and firing imperfections consistent with 19th-century production, enhancing the authenticity and presence of the piece.
With its bold scale, balanced proportions, and richly symbolic decoration, this vase embodies the enduring appeal of Qing dynasty blue and white porcelain and offers both collectors and decorators a versatile focal point.
