About the Item
A tall and richly decorated mid-century studio pottery vase from Steuler Keramik, hand painted by the artist A. Becker, Germany, circa 1955–1965. A sculptural statement piece with Moorish inspired ornamentation and a beautiful craquelure glaze.
This impressive and unique ceramic vase was created in the renowned Westerwald region of Germany, home to some of Europe’s most celebrated studio pottery. Produced by Steuler Keramik in the mid-20th century, the piece is completely hand painted by the artist A. Becker, whose signature appears on the underside together with the impressed model number 1009.
The design combines a strong architectural silhouette with richly layered decorative bands. Stylised arabesques in cobalt blue, turquoise, yellow and chestnut brown unfold across the surface, all enhanced by a fine craquelure glaze that adds depth and character. The result is a vibrant, one-of-a-kind artwork that reflects the mid-century fascination with historic and global ornament.
