About the Item

A striking and monumental pair of cloisonné enamel vases, likely Chinese in origin, dating to the early 20th century (circa 1910s). Standing at 51.5 cm in height with a generous 30 cm diameter, each vase is a celebration of color, craftsmanship, and decorative opulence. The baluster form rises from a flared foot to an elegantly waisted neck, topped with a broad, gently everted rim finished in warm gilt brass. The surfaces are meticulously decorated with intricate cloisonné work in a vivid palette: deep cobalt blue grounds are framed with elaborate foliate scrolls, enclosing reserves filled with vibrant turquoise skies, flowering branches of peonies and cherry blossoms, and finely rendered birds in flight and repose. Details are heightened with gold leaf and gilt brass accents, lending depth and luminosity to the composition. The floral borders at the base and neck reveal the precision of early 20th-century enamel work, with tiny individual cells of color separated by fine gilt copper wire. Excellent overall condition with only minor, age-appropriate surface wear. These vases are not only decorative but also impressive in scale, making them ideal statement pieces for a grand interior or a collector of fine Asian decorative arts.
