About the Item
Beautiful and rare vase made by Vicke Lindstrand at Upsala-Ekeby, Sweden, 1943.
Excellent condition.
Impressed 'EKEBY / 358' and signed 'Vicke' on the side of the base.
One of the masters of Scandinavian Art Deco and Mid-Century design in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, Vicke Lindstrand is best known for his work in glass for Orrefors in the 1930s and for Kosta in the 1950s. In the interim period, during World War II and into the late 1940s, Lindstrand also designed pieces for the Upsala-Ekeby ceramic company. This vase is one of his best and rarest designs and features two female nude figures, each seated and with one arm resting on a knee. Although Lindstrand designed the vase, which was molded by the factory, the application of glazes varied from piece to piece, creating a differing, lovely mottled pattern in the aureole surrounding each figure.
