Large wheel thrown textured vase by Jason Fox.
This textured vase was thrown on the wheel in two parts, scored/slipped, joined and then shaped. After letting the clay set up and become leather hard, it was then trimmed, textured and finally the foot was finished and stamped. Once dry it was bisque fired in an electric kiln.
For this vase the glaze was then poured over the piece in several layers to encourage the organic movement you see on the finished surface. Once the glazed vase again had a chance to dry out completely it was reduction fired to over 2000 degrees in a gas kiln. After the glaze firing the foot was then sanded to ensure a smooth finished surface.
It's truly a unique piece handmade by Jason Fox in Los Angeles that can be used functionally as a vase or as an accent piece for any modern decor.
