About the Item

This exceptional and highly evocative vase was designed by Gaetano Pesce and produced by Caffè Florian in 1995 on the occasion of Pesce’s exhibition held at the historic Caffè Florian during the Venice Biennale. Conceived as a symbolic tribute to the city, the vase takes the form of the head of the Lion of San Marco, Venice’s enduring emblem, with the Italian inscription “Toast to Venice” molded directly into the surface. The base bears the mark “Florian Temporanea” along with the manufacturer’s stamp. Each “Goto” vase is entirely unique, hand-cut and crafted from soft cast resin in varying color combinations. This example features a striking green body enriched with red and yellow accents. All pieces come from old stock, have never been used, and remain in excellent condition. Ten examples are available; please note that each varies slightly in color and character. The extended text molded onto the vase expresses Pesce’s powerful manifesto for a living, progressive Venice, rejecting stagnation and nostalgic conservatism in favor of openness, optimism, and contemporary culture. Both sculptural and political, this work stands as a rare collectible that encapsulates Pesce’s radical vision, emotional materiality, and enduring relevance in postmodern design.
