About the Item

This rare, single vase was designed by Livio Seguso for Bisazza during the early 1990s. It is executed in a deep emerald pulegoso glass, utilizing the specialized crucible pulegoso technique. The mouth of the vase features a refined rim accented with applied gold leaf, which clearly shows the traditional overlapping of the hot glass bead. The Pulegoso finish is an ancient Murano method characterized by thousands of trapped air bubbles. In this instance, the effect is achieved through the crucible process, where specific mineral particles are added to the molten mass to trigger a gas-releasing reaction. The execution of this vase follows a high technical standard, particularly evident in the application of the gold leaf at the rim. This piece belongs to a limited collection produced by Livio Seguso during the brief period in the early 1990s when the furnace was under Bisazza ownership. This era was a significant turning point for Seguso; by transitioning away from company ownership, he gained the creative freedom to pursue his career as an independent artist—a trajectory shared by contemporaries such as Luciano Vistosi. Bisazza, primarily recognized for luxury mosaics, maintained the Seguso models for the first half of the decade before ultimately closing the furnace. Following the closure, Seguso’s master glassmakers, Elio Raffaelli and Roberto Camozzo, continued the massiccio production tradition independently. The vase is marked with the Bisazza logo.

Seguso for Bisazza Pair Mustard Murano Pulegoso Vase Gold Rim, 1993 Signed
By Livio Seguso, Seguso, Seguso Cenadese, Bisazza Vetro, Seguso Vetri d Arte
Located in Tavarnelle val di Pesa, Florence
Set of two splendid Pulegoso vase. One round and the other tall. The round is lighter and the tall darker tone of mustard. Perfectly executed Pulegoso finish. This is Murano Crucible Pulegoso. The mouth has a rim with external gold leaf difficult to notice because it does not contrast with the background. Just magnificent and rare set. At first I believed, because of the round shape, that Bisazza was dovetailing Carlo Scarpa original round shape from the 1930s. When I was able to see the pieces and see the year, then all came clear. In the second part of the 1980s there was a re-discover in Interior design of the Native American arts. In particular, the Navaho products. As Carlo Scarpa took his inspiration from Japanese shapes, here Bisazza translated in glass the Navaho pottery art. Here the reason for a hearty color, these orange toned Puligoso is part of the Seguso tradition. Colors that are not in high fashion. This collection belongs to the Livio Seguso production made under Bisazza ownership for a small period of the early 1990s. Livio continued his artist career with the freedom and the free state of mind that came from not owning a company. Similar path of Luciano Vistosi. Bisazza, the famous luxury mosaic company, continued Seguso models for the first part of the 1990s. Then closed the furnace and continued to focus with his mosaic collection. His masters, Elio Raffaelli...

Murano Glass Mezza Filgrana, Green Amethyst Clear with Gold Leaf, Cenedese Attr
By Cenedese, Carlo Scarpa
Located in Tavarnelle val di Pesa, Florence
Great color combination. The filigree/filigrana glass is a cane with a color inside. Usually clear on the outside with a core in colored or opaque glass. Most used are white or black filigrana. This is a self-made filigrana as there is a green coating over an Amethyst core, making the Amethyst almost a dark bronze color. The other cane is clear with amethyst. The twisting (mena in muranese, or ritorto) makes a lay with the back of the vase almost as it is a reticello (once called filigrana, so that explains the term mezza filigrana). The special color combination was then rolled over pure gold leaf, highlighted with the iridescence smoke and then covered with another layer of high temperature glass to make the gold vivid. The vase is quite large and carries a squared mouth, in a way of Carlo Scarpa mezza filigrana vases...
