About the Item
Amphora in majolica handmade in Italy and hand-painted in polychrome, decorated with a reinterpretation of the patterns used in Deruta during the Fifteenth Century, following the original Renaissance painting technique. The characteristic themes of the Renaissance painting tradition stand out on a black background: the latter are repeated regularly, arranged according to a criterion of specular symmetry, such as floral elements and vegetable motifs in golden yellow, orange and copper green spirals. Nevertheless, the most refined detail is represented by the decorative contour bands which delimit the two ends of the central body of the amphora, where the traditional peacock feather motifs are characterized by delicate hues of light blue and copper green shaded with cerium white. The handles, similar to snakes that arch in the shape of volutes at both ends, add a pleasant effect of dynamism to the vase.
DIMENSIONS: width: 42 cm (16.54 in.), depth: 30cm (11.81 in.), height: 51cm (20.08 in.)
COLORS: black, golden yellow, orange, light blue, copper green.
The beauty of a deBlona majolica is determined by the ancient process, unchanged over time and handmade, which we observe to the letter in the creation of our artworks: painting ceramics is a very complex, fascinating and insidious art, but it is precisely the human and imperfect sign that makes every piece so characteristic and totally unique.
deBlona's essence is represented by the interpretation of the color and by an unrepeatable taste, with which we want to give new chromatic emotions.
Majolica accompanies the history of mankind, telling its existence for centuries: here, in our Atelier, we want to keep on narrating our time.

deBlona
Founded in 2020, deBlona emerged from a serendipitous encounter between entrepreneur Moreno Sagni and designer Riccardo Mei. Their shared passion for art and the timeless elegance of Italian craftsmanship inspired them to embark on this venture, blending their energies and expertise to revive a cherished tradition. In an era dominated by digital immediacy, deBlona chooses a different path—one that honors time and the mastery of an ancient craft. While fleeting trends may captivate for a moment, we believe in creating pieces that transcend the ephemeral. Our brand is a tribute to the art of slowing down, where every gesture reflects a lineage of skilled artisans, shaping works of beauty in quiet studios far from the rush of modern life. At deBlona, our atelier is where tradition meets innovation. It’s a sanctuary for our master artisans, whose expertise in materials and techniques is the foundation of every exquisite creation. Here, our majolica pieces come to life, infused with a deep reverence for history and a contemporary artistic vision. What defines deBlona is the singularity of our decorative approach and our bold interpretation of color. Majolica has long been a witness to humanity’s story, and through our work, we aim to continue that narrative—one of artistry, craftsmanship, and timeless beauty.

Rubboli Lustre Majolica Vase with Mythical Beasts Decor
By Rubboli
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
Sculptural, large ceramic Neo-Renaissance Rubboli vase is finished in cobalt, red and gold lustre. Hand-painted decor follows the classical shape of the piece, with abstract pattern accentuated the base and the top of the vase, and traditional designs of mythical beasts surrounding central medallion motifs.
The vase is a stunning, museum quality example of the revival of the magnificent Italian Renaissance decoration of the 16th century. Late 19th century collecting craze for Renaissance majolica, especially lusterware, prompted the Italian potters to hunt for the secret formulas that were lost four hundred years earlier. Studios owned by such ceramicists as Cantagalli, Molaroni, Rubboli, Santarella, and others attempted to duplicate antique lusterware pieces for the general public. Each studio developed their own closely guarded formulation.
