About the Item
Sculptural Organic Modern vase features rounded, elongated form, decorated with thin layer of gold foil fused over cobalt blue glass. The abstract, graphic pattern is swirling around the curves of the vase; the whole structure is enclosed in thin layer of clear glass in sommerso technique, adding depth and definition to the piece.
Minimal shape of the vase is accented with pronounced, wide rim and considerable layer of clear glass on the bottom, functioning both as a structural foot of the vase and as a visual separator, elevating the vase from the surface it's displayed on . The streamlined form of the vase allows the bold flow of the pattern to take the center stage.
The vase is signed and dated in etching on the side near the bottom; it comes with the original paper booklet. We are offering two cobalt and gold sommerso glass vases, created by Thomas Buechner III and Thomas Kelly for Vitrix Hot Glass Studio in 1990s; as Matthew has close ties to Vitrix studio, it is fascinating to see the reinterpretation of cobalt and gold theme by different artists with similar artistic background, and all three vases form a striking grouping when displayed together.
Sculptural, highly decorative vase with graphic form, high quality craftsmanship, and statement piece presence will make a great gift to a collector or a design enthusiast and a perfect addition to a wide range of interiors, from Traditional to Post Modern, Art Deco, Mid Century Modern, Eclectic, Transitional, Scandinavian Modern, Minimalist, Japandi, Collected, or Contemporary.

Roman Erlikh is a professional woodworker with over 20 years’ experience. Roman Erlikh Studio creates bespoke and limited edition contemporary furniture and art objects. His first furniture collections were inspired by traditional Art Deco and Biedermeier styles interpreted through a modern lifestyle demands. Stepping away from merely utilitarian view of everyday objects, his recent collections are filled with meaningful textual context while incorporating traditional and modern woodworking techniques. Roman is using practical function as a common denominator to create emotionally charged art objects, blurring the boundary between art and function. While appreciating possibilities of ordinary materials, Roman is developing new mixed media multilayered composite varnishes and utilizes decorative gilding and mica veneer to actively engage ambient light, giving an additional aspect to relation of his objects to their environment. The decision to work in custom format was based on environmental concerns and opposition to culture of mass production and pure consumerism. The choice of materials was heavily influenced by sustainability and environmental concerns. All objects are made locally in the Brooklyn Navy Yard workshop. Elimination of storage and transportation needs for mass-produced furniture in lieu of creating a custom made objects on demand allows us to reduce waste of materials and energy.
