About the Item
A refined and beautifully executed Japanese cloisonne enamel vase from the school of Goto Seizaburo, Meiji period circa 1890. Height twelve inches.
This vase displays the naturalistic floral and avian decoration closely associated with the Goto school, combining technical precision with a painterly sense of composition. The deep black enamel ground provides striking contrast, enhancing the vivid colors and delicate shading of the flowers and birds.
The decoration includes blossoming peonies, purple iris, white chrysanthemums, and small wildflowers rendered with lifelike detail. Sparrows appear among the foliage, adding charm, movement, and a sense of quiet observation typical of high quality Meiji cloisonne.
Traditional polychrome borders at the rim and base frame the central imagery and demonstrate refined enamel work consistent with leading Kyoto workshops of the late nineteenth century. The overall harmony, shading, and control of wirework reflect the sophisticated style for which the Goto school is admired.
A beautiful and highly decorative work suitable for collectors of Japanese cloisonne and Meiji era enamel, as well as interior designers seeking a refined statement piece. Excellent condition and ready to display.
