About the Item
Decorate a table, console, or cabinet with this elegant vintage ceramic vase. Crafted in Vallauris on the French Riviera circa 1950, the tall, bulbous vessel features a graceful double-gourd silhouette and hand-painted floral motifs in delicate shades of blush pink, yellow, and green over a rich coral-blue background. The artist’s painterly touch and fluid brushwork lend the design a sense of movement and spontaneity, hallmarks of the Vallauris school’s postwar revival period.
Signed on the underside F. Caleca Vallauris, this antique piece reflects the work of François Caleca, a mid-20th-century ceramist active in the famed pottery town of Vallauris. Known for his refined glazes and expressive decoration, Caleca belonged to the generation of Riviera artisans who carried forward the region’s celebrated ceramic tradition during the postwar era, alongside figures like Roger Capron and Charles Voltz. His creations embody the artistic renewal that made Vallauris an important center for decorative arts in the 1950s and 1960s.
The vase remains in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, displaying a luminous gloss and vibrant palette. A striking accent for both traditional and modern interiors.
