About the Item

Mid-Century Modern Earthenware vase signed Accolay Studio Pottery, 1960 - France Large ceramic vase decorated with two women swimming like mermaids. The shape of the vase and the two handles are reminiscent of an ancient jar or jug. The use of a dark earthenware colour brings out the elegant contrast in the decoration. The fluidity of the curves of the two women gives them both a languid and lively posture. --- Accolay ceramics had its golden age between 1945-1970 when four students of Alexandre Kostanda: André Boutaud, Slavik Palley, Louis Dangon and Raude set up their workshop in this small french village. Accolay is a joint signature combining the work of several potters they produced emblematic pieces of French ceramics. .
