About the Item
A pair of very nice Mid-century modern ceramic/stoneware vases hand-made by Thomas Hellström for Nittsjö Sweden. This is one of Hellströms' most famous design for Nittsjö Keramik, Sweden produced in the 60s, and very much of its time, yet still has a contemporary feeling to it. The design and shape are simple, but that is what makes these vases very special object is the glazing. The color is a warm chocolate base with white and pale green details in a graphic patter and top part unglazed in a typical brutalist art tradition.
They are 20cm (7.87") high and 10cm (3.93") in diameter. Note that there is a micro nick on the neck of one of the vases, reflected in the price, yet overall of a fantastic condition. The price is for both vases and includes free shipping.
Nittsjö Ceramics, Sweden Nittsjö ceramics factory is a limited company for the production of earthenware.
The factory was founded in 1843 as a pure brick factory, but in 1847 they began to manufacture terracotta and tile stoves. In 1924, the first ceramic designer Erik Mornils was employed at the factory. In 1933, the Rättvik-born artist Jerk Werkmäster was linked to the factory. Some of their more well-known artists and designers were Jerk Werkmäster, Thomas Hellström and Eliane Westh.
