About the Item
Mid-Century Scandinavian Handcrafted Ceramic Pitcher, 1950s
Elegant Scandinavian ceramic pitcher / vase dating to the 1950s. The piece is hand-thrown and glazed in the characteristic mid-century modern style, combining graphic precision with organic craftsmanship. The surface features a striking hand-carved geometric pattern of interlocking diamond shapes, filled with deep black glaze against a crisp white ground. The raised relief lines and slightly uneven texture highlight the artisanal quality and give the piece a lively, tactile surface.
The pitcher’s form is well-balanced with a narrow neck, gently flared rim, and a rounded body that sits on a small foot. The white interior glaze complements the exterior’s bold contrast. The handle is smoothly modeled and integrated into the body with a fluid transition typical of Scandinavian studio ceramics from the period. The style and technique are consistent with mid-century Nordic ceramic traditions, reminiscent of works by Aristo, Rörstrand, or Søholm.
