Rude Osolnik Signed Mid-Century Modern Spalted Wood Turned Vessel Bud Weed Vase
By Rude Osolnik
Located in Studio City, CA
A beautifully executed, handmade, wood-turned weed vase by master woodturner Rude Osolnik who is widely regarded, along with Bob Stocksdale, as one of the finest woodturners in American woodturning history. In 1992, he was presented by then-Kentucky Governor Brereton Jones, with the Milner Award, the Governor's Award for Lifetime Achievement.
The vase is made from spalted wood (hard to make out the exact wood on the base) and features highlighted wood grain and shades of dark and light areas. It is signed "Osolnik Originals" and "Spalted ...." by the Osolnik on the base.
A gorgeous and engaging gem of a piece that clearly makes an impact. Would be a great addition to any Midcentury Modern or wood-turned collection or make for an eye-catching stand-alone work in about any setting, midcentury or otherwise.
Osolnik's work can be found in such permanent collections as:
The Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian
The Boston Museum of Fine Arts

Pair Mid-Century Hand Carved Acacia Wood Hand Stool/child chair
Located in Fort Washington, MD
These hand-carved stools/chairs are more than just seating; they are a form of functional art. The craftsmanship required to sculpt the complex shapes of the human hand into furniture speaks to a deep understanding of both form and function by the artisan. Each finger is carefully shaped, with the lines representing the joints and creases one would find on an actual hand. The palms form a comfortable and inviting seat, while the wrists transition into a sturdy base, flaring out for stability.
The wood's rich tones highlight the natural beauty of the acacia, a hardwood known for its durability and fine grain. This choice of material not only ensures the stools/chairs' longevity but also gives them a warm, organic feel. The base of each stool/chair features carved designs, adding a touch of traditional Filipino...
