About the Item
Elegant French modernist Art Deco ceramic vase by Kaza (Paris), France, circa 1920. This sculptural vase features a refined ovoid body accented by two broad glossy bands, emphasizing its pure geometry and architectural balance.
The restrained decoration and harmonious proportions reflect the early modernist aesthetic that emerged in France during the 1920s, closely aligned with the architectural principles of Robert Mallet-Stevens—clarity of form, functional elegance, and visual purity. The contrast between the matte ground and the lustrous stripes enhances the vase’s sculptural presence while remaining understated and sophisticated.
Marked “Kaza France” under the base, this piece is a strong example of French Art Deco studio ceramics, ideal for collectors of early modern design and architectural ceramics.

About Kaza (Paris)
Kaza was a pioneering French ceramic workshop and design house active in Paris during the 1910s–1930s, best known for its decisive role in the development of French Art Deco and modernist ceramics. Founded by Kazimierz Zbikowski, a Polish-born ceramicist and designer, Kaza quickly gained recognition for its bold, architectural forms and refined surface treatments.
Kaza’s production moved away from traditional ornamentation, favoring pure volumes, strong geometry, and subtle contrasts of texture and glaze. The workshop collaborated with leading architects and decorators of the period and participated in major decorative arts exhibitions, including the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris.
Kaza ceramics are frequently associated with the modernist movement in French architecture, sharing visual affinities with figures such as Robert Mallet-Stevens and the emerging avant-garde. Today, Kaza pieces are highly sought after by collectors for their timeless modernity, sculptural quality, and historical significance within the Art Deco period.
