About the Item
Beautiful and unique centerpiece or decorative vase in the shape of a half-moon, crafted from Murano glass using the millefiori technique, originating in Italy in the 1990s.
The piece exhibits a curious distorted half-moon shape, with a deep belly and tips of irregular heights, one being taller and curved than the other. Each side of the figure is different; one side features shades of yellow, green, brown, and black, while the other features shades of orange, pink, and blue. This reinforces the image of this centerpiece as a versatile piece, capable of adapting to various rooms and decorative styles.
About the Millefiori Technique
Strictly speaking, millefiori is a glassmaking technique that produces distinctive decorative patterns on glass. The term is a combination of the Italian words "mille" (thousand) and "fiori" (flowers). It is traditionally associated with Venetian glasswork, like Murano. The technique involves the production of glass rods (murrine) with multicolored patterns that can be seen from the ends, where the florets are located. These rods are heated in a kiln and thinned, before being cut into thin discs or beads, which are inserted into the objects to be decorated. Over time, it has come to be recognized as a style in its own right, as objects of this type can be traced back to Roman times.
