"Sputnik" Art Glass Vase by Asta Stromberg for Strombergshyttan
By Asta Stromberg, Strombergshyttan
Located in San Diego, CA
Gorgeous "Sputnik" art glass vase by Asta Stromberg for Strombergshyttan, circa 1970s. The vase is a lovely clear glass and is in very good vintage condition; the piece measures 1.75"D x 11.75"H. Striking and quite beautiful! #2143 Strombergshyttan Strombergshyttan was founded in 1876, and was called the Lindfors glassworks until its changed its name in 1933. The name changed from Lindfors to Strombergshyttan when Edward Stromberg, who was the former head from Orrefors, bought the company in 1933. Together with his son Eric, he devised a way to produce a glass that had a bluish-silver hue, which became characteristic for Strombergshyttan. Gerda and Asta Stromberg designed most of the glass. The company remained in the Stromberg family until 1976, when it was sold to Orrefors. There had been a severe fire in 1973 which had left the glassworks in financial difficulties. Orrefors closed the Strombergshyttan glassworks in 1979. Gunnar Nylund and Rune Strand...

Smoked Glass Bud Vase by Arthur Percy for Gullaskruf, Sweden, Mid-20th Century
By Arthur Percy, Gullaskruf
Located in Glasgow, GB
A mid-century smoked glass bud vase by Arthur Percy for Gullaskruf Glasbruk, Sweden, circa 1950s–60s. This modernist solifleur vase is crafted in warm brown glass with a soft translucence, featuring a spherical base and elongated tapering neck—an elegant study in proportion and restraint typical of Scandinavian glass design from the period. Arthur Percy, a pivotal figure in 20th-century Swedish decorative arts, served as artistic director of Gullaskruf from 1952 and brought a refined, architectural sensibility to the glassworks’ production. His solifleur vases, such as this example, were designed not only to function as stem vases but also to sit sculpturally within minimalist interiors—characteristic of the era’s design ethos. Standing approximately 18 cm tall and 10 cm in diameter, this vintage Swedish vase is a collectible example of mid-century modern glassware. In very good condition with no chips or cracks; minor surface wear to the base consistent with age and gentle use. A considered addition to any collection of Scandinavian glass or modernist decorative objects.
