Pair Antique Very Large Chinese Porcelain Vases French Gold Ormolu Stands Porcelain: Chinese, 18th Century Ormolu: French, Late 19th Century Vases: Height 140cm, diameter 53cm Stands: Height 74cm, width 70cm, depth 70cm Overall: 214cm, width 70cm, depth 70cm This exceptional pair of vases showcases a striking blend of Chinese and French craftsmanship. Such cross-cultural designs were highly sought after in the 19th century, when Chinese porcelain was exported to Europe and enhanced with gilt-bronze mounts in the European style, much like the fine example presented here. Originating from 18th-century China, the vases are richly decorated with intricate motifs. Their bulbous bodies display a harmonious mix of floral and animal scenes, dominated by lush floral compositions. Surrounding these are delicate depictions of butterflies, birds, and mythical creatures, reflecting traditional Chinese symbolism. The porcelain is predominantly painted in soft greens, blues, reds, and yellows, accented with gilt highlights, while the necks are distinguished by black panels adorned with vibrant red flowers. Each vase is topped with a shaped lid, continuing the decorative scheme and featuring high-relief detailing. The ormolu stands are equally remarkable. Constructed as tripods with lion-paw feet, they are centred by a small dragon with outstretched wings. The legs are intricately embellished with scrolling foliage and garlands, and the upper sections, leading to the vases, are highlighted by prominent cartouches, further enhancing the luxurious design.
