Pair Large Austrian Green Gold Art Nouveau Jugendstil Glass Gilt Metal Vases Austrian, c. 1910 Height 49cm, diameter 16cm Reflecting the innovative spirit of late 19th century Austrian craftsmanship, this elegant pair of vases is fashioned from lustrous iridescent glass paired with ornate gilt metal. Inspired by the acclaimed work of Loetz, a leading glass manufacturer of the era, these vases celebrate a rich artistic tradition that gained international acclaim following the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. The fascination with iridescent glass sparked by archaeological finds of ancient Roman glass led Loetz to perfect a technique that infused each piece with a magical, shifting colour palette. These vases draw from that legacy, showcasing the hallmarks of the Art Nouveau or Jugendstil style that flourished across Europe at the time. Their graceful forms are enveloped in a deep blue-green hue, with the lower sections beautifully decorated in the signature ‘oil spot’ pattern.
