About the Item
Decorate a mantel, console, or buffet with this elegant pair of antique vases. Handcrafted in France circa 1870 and attributed to the Porcelaine de Paris manufacture, each large vessel features a flared neck over a pedestal base adorned with gilt borders and intricate foliate motifs. The front of each vase is richly hand-painted with romantic pastoral scenes: one depicts a mother and child crossing a river, while the other shows a young woman and two children gathering flowers by a bridge. The reverse sides reveal delicate landscape compositions with trees, birds, and soft skies in the manner of 18th-century Rococo revival. Finely detailed and beautifully enameled in rich, luminous colors with hand-applied gold accents, these neoclassical urns reflect the refined artistry of Parisian porcelain of the period. Both pieces are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use.

Pair of 19th Century Medici Vases, Hand-Painted Porcelain
Located in Lantau, HK
A set of two crater vases from the second quarter of 19th century, century 1825-1830,
made of porcelain of France, crafted in the factory of Mortelèque in Ixelles (near Brussels),
Belgium and painted by the artist Frédéric Faber (1782-1844).
The model of the crater vase is based on the famed Medici crater in the Uffizi in Florence.
This type of vase was often reserved for lavish gifts among the aristocracy and royal courts
in Europe.
At the Salon of 1815, Faber’s work attracted king William I of the Netherlands
(1772-1843) who eventually named him the court’s official porcelain painter.
