Striking in both form and palette, this pair of Dutch Art Deco vases captures the bold geometry and decorative innovation that defined early 20th-century ceramic design. Glazed in a rich salmon ground with alternating black vertical panels, stylized white dotwork, and ochre spiral rosettes, the vases are accented by green and black banding that emphasizes their tapering silhouettes and architectural symmetry. The high-gloss finish and graphic ornamentation lend each piece a sculptural presence—ideal for display on a console, mantel, or within a curated collection of modernist ceramics.
Inscribed on the base with “E.A. Gouda in Zuid Holland Rolf,” the markings differ from the standardized factory stamps and Lazarus Gate emblem associated with Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland (PZH). While their exact origin remains unconfirmed, the vases clearly reflect the stylistic language of Gouda pottery and are best described as Art Deco pieces in the manner of Zuid-Holland’s celebrated designs.
Both vases show fine surface craquelure and small chips to the rims and footrings, visible only on close inspection. Their overall condition remains strong, with vibrant coloration and finely preserved hand-painted detailing. Together, they offer a compelling example of Dutch Art Deco craftsmanship—rich in character, geometry, and historical resonance.
