About the Item

A finely decorated pair of Chinese porcelain vases, painted in the famille verte palette and bearing a blue underglaze Kangxi six-character mark to the base. Each vase is of square tapering form with a flared rim, richly enameled on all sides with continuous narrative landscape scenes. The decoration includes scholars, attendants, animals, and pastoral settings rendered amid rocky outcrops, trees, mountains, and water. The upper registers feature animal scenes, while the main panels depict elegant figural compositions accompanied by vertical calligraphic inscriptions, adding literary and artistic depth. The color palette is vibrant yet harmonious, dominated by soft turquoise grounds, iron red, aubergine, yellow, and green enamels—hallmarks of the famille verte tradition inspired by Kangxi-period aesthetics. The scenes are framed with geometric and scrolling borders, creating strong visual structure. The bases display a neatly painted 大清康熙年制 (Da Qing Kangxi Nian Zhi) mark. Based on the style, enamels, and body form, the mark is best understood as honorific, with the vases dating to the early 20th century Qing dynasty, reflecting a revival of Kangxi decorative traditions.
