About the Item
Pair of Italian Mid-Century brown-orange-yellow-white Ceramic Vases by Fratelli Fanciullacci 1960s
The vases have an elegant conical shape.
The outer wall is completely ribbed and in the middle there is a surrounding abstract decoration
measuring 8 cm in orange, yellow, white, black, green, and blue.
Below the neck is a delicate band of small 1 cm rectangles.
The decoration is framed by deeper black lines, which gives the whole piece a particularly flat appearance.
The ceramic is glazed and undamaged.
The rim has a diameter of 6.5 cm, and the diameter at the base is 9 cm.
The Fanciullacci pottery was founded in 1862 on the small island Capraia, north of Elba, between Corsica and Italy. Around 1911 they moved the factory to Montelupo, this to be able to distribute their wares by rail more easily. Their 1914 catalogue shows more than 1000 different models. Before moving to Bitossi in 1935, Aldo Londi worked for Fanciullacci. The company produced ceramics in many different styles and followed the trends and tastes of the time closely.
In 1966 the decision was made to expand and open an additional factory in Florence, which proved to be fatal, the demand for ceramics was stagnating in Europe and the good times were over. The artistic quality was lost and all activity ceased in 1988.
Some other ceramists who worked for Fanciullacci:
Vincenzo Ossani
Lorenzo and Giovacchino Canneri
Dino
Mario Scappini
Bruno Bagnoli
Benvenuto Staderini

Italian Mid-Century Ceramic Vase in Etruscan Style in by Mariano Pieroni 1950s
Located in Salzburg, AT
Italian Mid-Century Ceramic Vase in Etruscan Style in by Mariano Pieroni 1950s
Conical ceramic vessel with a pronounced, straight rim.
The color is dark brown-red and the graphic decoration around the rim is worked in a rich sand tone.
The surface is rough and textured, but glazed, which gives the object a special appeal.
This decorative object has an Etruscan character and was crafted by M. Pieroniin 1955-56 in Faenza
at the Istituto d'arte Faenza.
Mariano Pieroni was born in Barga (Lucca) on June 17, 1937. He lives and works in Solbiate Arno (Varese).
An ideologist of the "Dimensionismo" movement, he was a member of historic groups in the Lombardy area: "LIBERI ARTISTI DEL VARESOTTO" (LADPDV),
i Besnatesi, Porta Ticinese, Centro documentazione Arte Varese, "Tectores Errantes," and "Dimensionismo." From 1952 to 1966, he lived in Florence and attended the studios of Rosai, Grazzini, and Conti, and the free school of nude art at the Academy of Fine Arts directed by Giorgio Settala. He became a student of Silvio Polloni and, in 1953-54, of Pietro Annigoni. His mentors also included Ugo Seravalle (his first teacher) and Emanuele Zambini (a renowned sculptor). He met the great Italian-American artist Agostino Nivola during the summer of 1950 and studied under him at Villa Pozzolini in Quercianella.
Early training in figurative art, he moved on to informal art, adopting various techniques such as collage and frottage, after studying nude painting...
