About the Item
Pair of Large “Cathedral” Model Cassolettes in Gilt and Patinated Bronze, Charles X Period, Early 19th Century
An elegant pair of cassolettes in mercury-gilded bronze and dark brown patinated bronze, dating from the Charles X period (early 19th century).
Each piece rests on an octagonal base, lending them great character and presence, and rises to a wide flaring collar that enhances their opulent design.
These cassolettes can be displayed as decorative objects alongside an Empire clock, or imaginatively repurposed as jardinières for a refined table setting.
Rare survivals from the short-lived Charles X reign (1824–1830), they embody the transition between the Empire grandeur and the lighter aesthetics of the Restoration. Their “cathedral” profile also reflects the emerging Neo-Gothic taste of the early 19th century, with pointed motifs echoing medieval architectural forms.
