About the Item

Pair of Loetz iridescent glass and wrought iron mesh vases, hand-blown in the 1920s Ø cm 10 h cm 23 Loetz is a name that immediately conjures up images of art glass of extraordinary beauty and refinement. This Bohemian manufacture, founded in the 19th century, became world famous for its one-of-a-kind creations that helped define the Art Nouveau style. Loetz's story begins in 1850 in Klostermühle, Bohemia (now the Czech Republic). Under the leadership of Johann Loetz, the glassworks specialized in the production of artistic glass, experimenting with new techniques and colors. Loetz is known for using vibrant and intense colors, often achieved by applying layers of stained glass and creating iridescent effects. The shapes of Loetz pieces are often inspired by nature, with curved and sinuous lines that recall flowers, plants and animals. The manufacture experiments with different glass processing techniques, including the superposition of layers of colored glass, gilding and silvering. Loetz played a key role in the development of Art Nouveau, an art movement that influenced architecture, decorative arts, and visual arts in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Art Nouveau style is characterized by curved lines, floral patterns, and a focus on nature.
