About the Item
A matched pair of Japanese Cloisonné vases in exactly the same shape and size, but with different colors and design patterns. Both have highly detailed geometric borders and other patterns. One has a black background, and the other peacock blue.
Cloisonné is an ancient decorative technique involving the following:
Fine metal wires are soldered onto a metal surface, typically copper, to create small compartments called "cloisons". These compartments are then filled with colored enamel pastes. The piece is fired at high temperatures and polished to create the vibrant, intricate designs seen on the vases.
The designs often incorporate significant symbols; for example, in this case, dragons and phoenix.
