About the Item

This elegant pair of hand-painted porcelain vases is a fine example of the artistry associated with the Paris porcelain workshops of the late 19th century. Each vase is gracefully baluster-shaped, with a gently flared rim accented in fine gilding. The bodies are richly decorated with vibrant polychrome floral bouquets, capturing the charm and abundance of a garden in full bloom. The vivid hues of poppies, violets, cornflowers, and wild roses are carefully detailed, with delicate shading and fine brushwork typical of French porcelain painting of this period. The reverse sides are adorned with lighter, more delicate sprays of blossoms and foliage, offering a pleasing contrast to the more elaborate central compositions. A thin gilt line encircles the foot and rim, adding a subtle touch of refinement. The interiors remain clean and the vases display beautifully both as decorative objects and as functional vessels for fresh flowers. Paris porcelain was highly sought after in the 19th century, admired for its purity of white body, translucency, and exquisite painted decoration.
