About the Item
Pair of sculptural ceramic vases in the Vallauris style, likely dating from the mid-20th century. Each vase has an elongated, tapered body with an integrated handle and circular foot, creating an open, graphic silhouette.
The surface is finished in a textured “fat lava” glaze in sandy beige and brown tones, with contrasting orange panels on the front and sides. The glazes have a cratered, volcanic effect typical of fat lava ceramics and recall French and European studio production of the 1960s–1970s. The interiors are glazed, allowing the pieces to be used as vases if desired, while they also work well as purely decorative objects.
The pair presents well together, with the smaller form echoing the profile of the larger vase. Very good vintage condition with light wear consistent with age and use.
