Venini, Italy, approx. 1970 Fashion, design, the arts, hotels, restaurants, porcelain, perfumes, Cardin more than any other stylist has been able to apply his name and his style in many fields and on many objects. Pierre Cardin was born in San Biagio di Callalta (Treviso) on 2 July 1922. His real name is Pietro Cardin. Having moved to Paris in 1945, he studied architecture and worked first for Paquin, then for Elsa Schiapparelli. He meets Jean Cocteau and Christian Berard with whom he creates costumes and masks for various films such as "Beauty and the Beast". He became head of Christian Dior's atelier in 1947 after being rejected by Balenciaga. He founded his own fashion house in 1950; his atelier in Rue Richepanse mainly creates costumes and masks for the theatre. He begins to venture into the world of high fashion in 1953, when he presents his first collection.
