About the Item
A stunning French Art Nouveau pottery twin handled art pottery vase decorated with blue crystalline glazes and dating from around 1910. The stoneware vase stands raised on a ground flat foot with a slightly recessed base. The vase has a squat wide round bottle shaped body with a tall narrow graduating neck and simple round opening with tall handles extending from the lower body to either side. The vase is decorated in blue crystalline glazes with elements of yellow and the natural color of the stoneware showing through intentionally in places. There are also some darkened black high fired elements within the patten. The mark is partially visible to the base and interestingly has had the foot ground down, believed at the time of making, as there is consistent loss of glaze around the lower edge some of which appears to be in the firing of the vase. A partial mark is visible to the base.
Acquired from the UK Art Market.
In good condition with wear associated with age and use. The base has been ground down at the time of making with some consequential glaze loss around the foot rim, combined with some firing defects. These do not detract.
