About the Item

A striking Postmodern art glass vase designed by Colin Terris for Caithness Glass, titled Xanadu and produced in Scotland during the early 1990s. Bold in both form and palette, the piece reflects Terris’s pivotal role in late 20th-century British studio glass and his continued exploration of sculptural technique. The vessel presents a triangular body that ascends with subtle curvature into a flared neck, balancing geometric precision with organic flow. Internally cased in white glass, the exterior is executed in richly layered pâte de verre in deep purple and cobalt blue. Undulating trails of lilac-hued glass are applied to the surface, which is finally encased in clear crystal—lending dimensionality and optical depth to the form. Measuring 22 cm in height, with a width of 10 cm and depth of 9 cm, the vase remains in excellent vintage condition, showing only minimal signs of wear to the base. A refined and collectable example of Postmodern Scottish art glass, signed by the artist.

Turquoise Glass Squat Bottle Vase in Mdina ‘Ming’ Pattern, Signed 1979, Malta
By Mdina, Michael Harris
Located in Glasgow, GB
A rare signed Mdina Glass vase from Malta, dated 1979, exemplifying the studio’s bold aesthetic during its formative years. This decorative squat bottle vase is worked in the celebrated ‘Ming’ pattern, with swirling bands of turquoise blue and deep green glass layered over a base of sparkling golden ochre. The colours twist upward in irregular spirals around the rotund body, forming a richly tactile surface that captures the light beautifully. This form—low, broad, and full-bodied—is less commonly encountered, particularly in this scale. Measuring 16.5 cm in both height and diameter, it’s a commanding example of vintage Mdina glass...

Smoked Glass Bud Vase by Arthur Percy for Gullaskruf, Sweden, Mid-20th Century
By Gullaskruf, Arthur Percy
Located in Glasgow, GB
A mid-century smoked glass bud vase by Arthur Percy for Gullaskruf Glasbruk, Sweden, circa 1950s–60s. This modernist solifleur vase is crafted in warm brown glass with a soft translucence, featuring a spherical base and elongated tapering neck—an elegant study in proportion and restraint typical of Scandinavian glass design from the period. Arthur Percy, a pivotal figure in 20th-century Swedish decorative arts, served as artistic director of Gullaskruf from 1952 and brought a refined, architectural sensibility to the glassworks’ production. His solifleur vases, such as this example, were designed not only to function as stem vases but also to sit sculpturally within minimalist interiors—characteristic of the era’s design ethos. Standing approximately 18 cm tall and 10 cm in diameter, this vintage Swedish vase is a collectible example of mid-century modern glassware. In very good condition with no chips or cracks; minor surface wear to the base consistent with age and gentle use. A considered addition to any collection of Scandinavian glass or modernist decorative objects.
