About the Item

Gallé Bowl Vase with Violets Decor – Early 1910s, collectible. Dimensions: Height: 7 cm, Diameter: 7,5 cm. An exquisite bowl-shaped vase produced by the Établissement Émile Gallé in the early 1910s, showcasing masterful Art Nouveau craftsmanship. The piece is composed of multi-layered glass, with vivid red and yellow layers intricately acid-etched to reveal a delicate violets motif—branches and blossoms unfolding across an opalescent white ground. Executed in the cameo glass technique, the design emerges through precise acid carving, creating a richly textured and dimensional surface. The fire-polished finish enhances the depth and luminosity of the floral decor. Signed Gallé in cameo low on the wall, affirming its authenticity. Provenance: Important Glass Miniatures French Collection Émile Gallé (1846-1904 was a renowned French artist and designer, known for his work in glass and his significant contributions to the Art Nouveau movement. Born on May 4, 1846, in Nancy, France, Gallé was the son of a successful faience and furniture producer1. He studied philosophy, botany, and drawing, and later learned glassmaking at Meisenthal, France. Gallé's work is characterized by its innovative techniques and naturalistic themes. He was a pioneer in the use of deeply colored, almost opaque glasses, often layered in several thicknesses and carved or etched to form intricate plant motifs. His glass pieces were a great success at the Paris Exhibition of 1878, and he became known as a spirited designer working in contemporary revival styles. In addition to his glasswork, Gallé was also a founder of the École de Nancy, a movement of design in the city of Nancy, France. His striking original work made a great impression when it was exhibited at the Paris Exposition of 1889, and over the next decade, his glass became internationally known and imitated. Gallé's workshop employed nearly 300 people at the height of its productivity, and he attracted numerous artisans, including the Art Nouveau glassmaker Eugène Rousseau. Gallé's legacy continued even after his death on September 23, 1904, in Nancy. His glass enterprise continued production until 1913, and his work remains highly regarded and sought after by collectors and art enthusiasts.
