About the Item

A lovely red miniature vase made by Pilkingtons in 1909 in the Aesthetic taste. The English ceramic manufacturer Pilkingtons Lancastrian Pottery produced art pottery at the beginning of the 20th century, manufacturing elaborately painted lustre pieces as well as simpler monochromatic vessels, like this vase. The stunning effects of Pilkington’s artistic glazes are on full display in this petite vase, which makes a bold statement despite its tiny size. The vase reveals the period’s taste for simple glazes and unornamented shapes inspired by 18th-century Chinese porcelains. In this Pilkington’s pottery vase, the flambe or oxblood glaze is itself the ornamentation and mimics 18th-century Chinese sang-de-boeuf porcelains. Dimensions: 4 in. H x 2 3/4 in. W at the widest point Condition: Excellent.
