About the Item
Exquisite pair of Japanese sterling silver vases, by Sanju Saku, with exquisite, applied metal motifs showing birds on branches and flowers, from the late 19th or early 20th century. They measure 10'' in height by 3'' in diameter at the top. Hallmarks are shown. Total weight is 74.3 troy ounces.
Japanese maker Sanju Saku, one of Japan’s leading silversmiths, based in Yokahama, Japan, made and retailed silver with enamels and applied motifs from around 1880 to 1920. The Museum of Fine Arts in Houston holds a Sanju Saku tea and coffee set in its permanent collection. Freddie Mercury had a Sanju Saku bowl in his collection, which was sold by Sotheby's in 2023.
