About the Item

Art Deco pewter vase crafted in Sweden, 1936. The classical form features a spherical body and distinctive twisted rope handles that give the piece a confident, sculptural presence. Both sides are adorned with applied reliefs depicting a figure holding a torch and vessel, lending a subtle neoclassical character. Over time, the pewter has developed a soft, attractive patina that enhances its depth and warmth. Crafted in 1936, as confirmed by the year mark K8 on the base. The vase is also marked “Svenskt Tenn” (Swedish pewter) and "EMT", standing for Eskilstuna Metallindustri—one of several Swedish metalworking firms active during the Art Deco and early Modernist period. While relatively obscure today, EMT contributed thoughtfully designed pewter objects during this era. This vase works beautifully both as a functional object for flowers and as a standalone decorative piece. It remains in good vintage condition but showing the expected surface wear and patina consistent with an object approaching 90 years of age—wear that speaks to its authenticity and history.
