About the Item
“Le Grand Bleu” is a large sculptural vase, entirely hand-carved from a single block of Azul Macaubas quartzite with stunning blue veining. Each piece begins with the careful selection of the block, chosen for its unique natural patterns, with clients having the opportunity to be guided and involved in the marble selection process.
The extraordinary beauty of the Azul and its deep blue tones enhance the vase’s form, reminiscent of a swirling vortex of water rising upwards, creating a tall, sinuous silhouette. The flawlessly hand-polished surface emphasizes its fluid and dynamic character. This vase is part of a limited edition of only 30 pieces.
Dimensions: D 31.5 x W 34.5 H 62 cm. Available in different onyx, quartzite and marbles.
Limited edition of 30.
Each vase is hand signed and numbered by the artists (engraved), 100% hand made in Italy and comes with a "Certificate of Authenticity "
Quartzite is a natural material, every piece is unique as each quartzite block is different in veins and color shades. All of our creations are handmade by Italian artisans and can slightly vary in shape and size. This is to be considered as a guarantee of a handmade object.
All Pieruga objects are made of precious and natural marbles and onyx. Marble is sensitive to acid-based liquids, especially a prolonged contact with substances such as wine, lemon, vinegar, fruit juices, cola and alcohol can stain the surface.
Cleaning should be carried out with a soft sponge, water and neutral detergent. Do not use metallic or abrasive sponges, do not wash in the dishwasher, do not use in the microwave. The color of the marble after washing can undergo variations due to the humidity trapped in the surface’s micro-pores. Once fully dried it will regain its original color. The brass inlays tend to oxidize over time, to make them return to shine again use a soft cotton pad soaked in a solution of water and traditional Marseille soap, gently rub over the brass inserts and rinse the surface thoroughly. We are against the use of chemical products, all Pieruga objects are processed and polished through long manual processes without the use of polishing liquids.

Barberini & Gunnell
The choice of the best and most precious materials, the maniacal cure for detail is the basis of their modus operandi, aiming to create timeless pieces. Using stainless steel, brass, cast bronze, precious wood essences, marbles, onyxes, semi-precious gemstones, crystal glass, together with the most sophisticated technologies and quality craftsmanship, allows the atelier to work for clients like the Andrea Bocelli Foundation, Bonhams, Cartier, Dior, Four Seasons Hotels, Louis Vuitton, Paramount Pictures, Peter Marino Architects, Regency Seven Seas Cruises and Sotheby’s. Atelier Barberini
Gunnell was founded in 2009 by the architects Francesco Barberini and Nina A. Gunnell, as the result of a passion followed for a long period of time, creating one-off pieces and collectible design in limited editions; artworks far from the industrial reality. The cultural mix between the two artists with Italian, English and Austrian backgrounds results in unique architectural and interior design projects. From several private clients and collectors emerges the request for the conception and realization of ‘living art’, customized furniture for their special homes. Artworks by Barberini
Gunnell are exhibited at: Art BaselDesign//Miami, Art Miami, PAD London, PAD Genève, PAD Paris, Salon Art+Design New York … In 2019 Atelier Barberini
Gunnell founded the brand ‘Pieruga Marble’.

Pieruga proudly creates elegant accessories and complements in marble through artisanal processes, bringing into dialogue ancient techniques of sculpture with advanced technologies. 100% handmade in Italy.
Our Mission is a clear Signal of opposition to the enormous waste that occurs in the extraction and processing of large blocks of marble, tons of material are discarded and thrown, in disfigurement to the generosity of our mountains.
Rediscovering the ancient art of manual sculpture we give new life to even the smallest fragment of marble, bringing to light its millenary beauty that is lost in more than 2000 years of architecture and sculpture.
