Large sculptural stoneware vase by Eds-Keramik, Benshausen, Germany. Model 2012/40 with hand-painted geometric decoration in warm earthy tones. A powerful Mid-Century Modern art object with strong decorative presence.
A rare sculptural ceramic vase produced by Eds-Keramik in Benshausen, Germany, circa 1970s. This impressive model, numbered 2012/40, stands 40 cm tall and shows the artistic approach and fine craftsmanship characteristic of this sought-after East German studio.
The organic form with its elegant flowing contour creates a strong sculptural identity. The surface is finished with matte engobe bands and precisely hand-painted linear and dotted decoration in terracotta, sand, dark brown and accents in sky blue and soft yellow. The rhythm of color and geometry reflects modernist German design sensibilities inspired by post-Bauhaus traditions.
Eds-Keramik produced in small quantities compared to the well-known West German factories, which makes this piece a distinctive and collectible statement object. Ideal as a stand-alone centerpiece on a console or sideboard in a sophisticated interior.
Stamped underside with model number 2012/40 and remains of the original Eds-Keramik Benshausen label.
