About the Item
Pre-Columbian, Peru, Sican-Chimu transitional period, circa 1100–1470 CE. A striking ceramic vessel showcasing the refined artistry of Peru’s northern coastal cultures. The piece is distinguished by twin spouts rising symmetrically from a rounded body, joined by a gracefully arched bridge handle. Atop the handle sits a finely modeled “lord”-type figure, likely representing an elite or ancestral figure, a hallmark of Sican-Chimu iconography.
The spherical body is balanced on a flared foot, with stylized finial-like projections on either side adding to its sculptural presence. The vessel embodies both ritual function and aesthetic sophistication, reflecting the cultural and artistic continuity between the Sican and Chimu civilizations.
Dimensions: 8.75" W x 8.75" H (22.2 x 22.2 cm)
This vessel is a superb example of transitional Pre-Columbian ceramics, marrying symbolic form with elegant symmetry, and stands as a testament to the ceremonial traditions of ancient Peru.
