About the Item

This vase In silver was designed by the Finnish master Tapio Wirkkala, whose artistic expression consistently drew inspiration from nature. He himself described how he discovered form in cracking ice, stones polished by the current, and sand shaped by waves – a guiding principle that runs throughout his work. Recurring themes include leaves, birds, ice formations, and water movements, which in his silver pieces for Kultakeskus appear as softly folded, leaf-like silhouettes and motions seemingly frozen in metal. These organic forms echo Wirkkala’s profound fascination with the Finnish landscape and its cultural heritage. The vase is executed in sterling silver, with an irregular shape that enhances its organic character. It is stamped, monogram signed, and carries a Swedish import mark. Weight 352 g. The marks include the year code “U7”, which in the Finnish assay tables corresponds to 1973. The surface shows light wear consistent with age.
