About the Item
A small stoneware vessel by Italian-born ceramic artist Francesca Mascitti-Lindh, created at the Arabia Art Department in Helsinki during the 1960s. The form is compact and organic, resting on three soft points that lift it lightly from the surface. Its dark brown glaze has a subtle sheen that accentuates the gentle throwing lines and rounded silhouette, giving the piece a quiet sense of movement.
Mascitti-Lindh was among the international artists who helped define Arabia’s post-war studio production, working alongside figures such as Rut Bryk and Birger Kaipiainen. Her works are marked by a sensitive approach to form and surface - minimal yet expressive, often drawing from natural geometry and the tactile qualities of clay itself.
This small vessel exemplifies her refined balance between structure and softness, sculpture and function. Handsigned on the base “FML ARABIA”, it represents an elegant example of Finnish studio ceramics from the height of the mid-century modern period - subtle, timeless, and beautifully crafted.

Note on the Artist:
Francesca Mascitti-Lindh (1918–2010) was an Italian-born ceramic artist who became a central figure in Arabia’s Art Department after joining the company in 1955. Trained in Rome, she brought a sculptural sensibility to the Nordic studio movement, exploring organic forms and deeply toned glazes that merged Italian craftsmanship with Finnish modernism. Her works are admired for their tactile surfaces, balanced proportions, and timeless simplicity - qualities that have made them increasingly sought after by collectors of Scandinavian studio ceramics.
