About the Item
This stoneware vase designed by Erich and Ingrid Triller and produced at their workshop in Tobo is a composed example of Swedish ceramics. Finished in a carefully balanced brown and ochre glaze, the vase displays an assured form in which proportion and surface are given equal importance. The glaze is evenly applied, allowing subtle tonal variations from the firing process to emerge naturally and give the surface depth without visual excess.
Erich Triller (1898–1972) and Ingrid Triller (1905–1982) met while studying art in Germany and settled in Sweden in 1935, where they established their ceramics workshop in Tobo. Their work was strongly informed by Bauhaus ideals, with a focus on functionality, restraint, and craftsmanship, and a conscious rejection of superfluous decoration. The Tobo studio became known for producing stoneware objects of lasting relevance, and the Trillers’ work is today represented in several Swedish museum collections.
