About the Item
An extraordinary Murano vase of bold black glass enriched with delicate gold leaf inclusions. The piece still bears the original Vetri Murano (VM) consortium label, with the code “044” that was assigned to the OBALL glass factory in the 1980s.
This vase is remarkable not only for its striking aesthetic but also for the refined execution of the “incalmo” technique. Incalmo – an ancient and demanding method of Venetian glassblowing – consists in joining two or more separately blown glass elements while still hot, so that they fuse into a seamless whole. The result is a perfect line of color transition, requiring extreme precision and mastery.
The harmonious contrast of the deep black body with shimmering gold details, combined with the technical virtuosity of incalmo, make this piece a rare example of Murano’s artistry from the late 20th century.
