About the Item

Vaso in vetro soffiato verde caratterizzato da elementi a bulbo nel modellato del corpo, decorato con smaltati color verde, argento e oro presenti sia sul corpo che sul collo del vaso. Gli smalti raffigurano disegni floreali affiancati da motivi dorati ornamentali di gusto orientale. Firma incisa “Cristallerie D’Emile Galle Nancy Modele et decor deposés” in carattere manoscritto posta entro riserva sotto la base. Pioniere dell’Art Nouveau e fondatore dell’École de Nancy, Émile Gallé (1846-1904) è stato un maestro del vetro e designer geniale. Le prime esperienze di Gallé nel campo del vetro smaltato risalgono agli anni ’60 dell’Ottocento, grazie agli studi presso la fabbrica di maioliche del padre a Saint-Clément e la partecipazione all’Esposizione Universale del 1867. Nei primi anni ’70, Gallé iniziò i suoi esperimenti personali con gli smalti, cercando un modo per eliminare le difficoltà inerenti alla vetrificazione. In passato si è ipotizzato che avesse abbandonato i pezzi smaltati quando i suoi esperimenti con il vetro durante gli anni Ottanta e Novanta dell’Ottocento lo portarono ai nuovi processi di “intarsio” e patina del vetro, ma in realtà è certo che continuò a produrre un’ampia gamma di pezzi in cristallo arricchiti con disegni smaltati, tra i quali rientra anche il vaso qui illustrato, realizzato tra il 1894 e il 1897. A livello stilistico il nostro vaso ben si allinea alla produzione liberty di fine XIX secolo, caratterizzata in Gallé da un forte gusto per la cultura e i motivi orientali. La datazione agli anni 1894-1897 è stata resa possibile grazie alla scrittura calligrafica della firma incisa e all’utilizzo del termine “cristalleria”, impiegati da Émile alla metà degli anni novanta dell’Ottocento.
